Objective: UPLIFT TALENTED POOR STUDENTS AND SPONSORSHIP FOR ENGINEERING EDUCATION
Background: One fine morning I had a thought last year to sponsor talented poor for Engineering education for 4 yrs. We worked on financial aspect and it costs Rs2 lakhs per student for 4 years with minimum requirements.
Action: Last year(2007) we have identified 4 such students from our village Salur in Andhra Pradesh and started sponsoring them and paid fees for all 4 of them. I am sponsoring for 2 students and likeminded friends sponsoring another 2 students. (So our commitment for these students is Rs.8 lakhs for next 4 yrs)
Selection Criteria: Students who have achieved more than 90% in both 10th class and intermediate with a financial income of less than 25,000 per annum and a networth not more than 2 lakhs.
Students Commitment:
1) Once they complete engineering and get a job they should sponsor 2 more students of talented poor. (Moral commitment in writing. No legal binding)
2) All students should score more than 90% every year in their academics to get continous sponsorship. If the school highest score is less than 90%, Students should be in top 3 in the college or their group.
Note: Idea is to make them responsible students and do good in their academics. My role to motivate students continously by phone/emails/letters and in person in addition to sponship of my commitment.
Future: We want to take up this concept in a larger scale thru website-Nationwide that anyone can sponsor anystudent at any place and their detials (both sponsor and sponsoree) will be provided in the website. It is like sowing a seed. Sponsor will be seed as a root and the sponsoree will be the plant/branches of tree.
